Upstairs Downstairs

Hi, it's me, Stygia. Pretty much, I am the Downstairs Cat right now. I have been upstairs a few times, but most of the time I'm in the People's bedroom where I feel pretty safe. The Lady had a nap down here this afternoon and I slept next to her on the bed. It was nice. I like to rub the People's legs when they are near me, and I talk to them a lot.

But there is an Other Cat living here already, and I am pretty scared of her. I've taken a few venturesome steps towards her, but she hisses and runs away. I have also hissed at her a few times, but more because I was scared, not serious.

Hi, it's me, Abby. As you've probably guessed, I am the Upstairs Cat. During the day, this is a great thing because that's where the living room is, and Ms. C is there a lot. Don't tell Stygia, but the real reason I have not done anything but hiss is because I am terrified of her. She is bigger than me!

I went downstairs a few times today to look and check things out, but I did not stay that long. When Styggie came up, we actually ran around the house (with me chasing!) downstairs, back upstairs, and back down again, our tails puffed up the whole time.

I hope we can be at least playmates soon. I make Mr. R mad when I hiss at him, but I only hiss because he has been patting the Other Cat and it just smells so terrifying to me! And I want to be able to sleep with my people again at night, but right now I am too scared to try it.

Oh, your dad shouldn't be mad, Abby. It's pretty normal for newfurs and oldfurs to have to learn to get along..besides, a hiss means a lotta different things, doesn't it..sometimes, it's a "I'm mad", or "That smells weird", or "I'm scared", or "What IS going on around here?"...sometimes it's all of the above, huh?

Oh, sounds like you are making the will you be my friend SOMEDAY advances. It's a start. We hope for better news soon so peace will reign.

We hope that you become friends soon so you can sleep with your people again. We would be sad if we couldn't sleep with (on) our Mom.

I think in time you and she will be buddies. I salute your beans for giving her a great home after what happened to her!

Angus said it perfectly. A hiss can mean a lot. Just take it slowly, and don't expect to be best friends right away. Maybe your mom can take turns with each of you at night - one of you sleeps with her one night, and the other the next until you become comfortable together.

Hi Abby, and Welcome Stygie!

That's a lot of excitement over at your end! I bet you are both trying to figure out what's going out and feeling quite discombobulated.

Abby, you asked about my advice on siblings. All I can tell you is "love'em, groom'em and play with'em!" It's really nice to have a playmate, and company when the people are away!

Your Pal,
Sen-Chan

Abby and Stygia, it sounds to me like you are both scared of each other. Once you get used to each other, I think things will be fine. A nice game of chase is a good way to start.

Hi again Abby, I'm glad you like the meme. I've updated it by adding a couple of doodles to illustrate the bath game. This is the sort of thing I do instead of going to bed like normal people, lol! :) xxx
