An Abby Normal Kind of Day

Abby: Today is a day for me only. Every cat needs a day like that, right? So here I am, as you can see I am going to tell you all about what's going on here.

Some of you will be VERY interested in seeing what's happening in our back yard these days! It seems we have a new family living here. How many do you see? Should we GET them?

It's warm out. Being flat helps.

I am very interested in all my my Mum, Ms. C, has to do. I follow her everywhere, and she was sick the last few days with a sinus thing, but I had a fantastic time. She slept a lot, and I made sure I was right there, curled up in her armpit. I can get very small if I need to!

For some reason, Ms. C put this blanket on the floor, and I found it to be VERY stimulating. Maybe it had something to do with our catnip plant nearby, maybe not. I'm not telling!!

I'm telling you

Abby: Mum, I am telling you! I really love you!

Stygia: And I am telling you, you need to clean the windows. But I am still having a great time.

Our Favorite New Activities

Abby: This morning we would like to share with you some of our favorite new activities. They do not vary too much, but that is because they are so wonderful!

My new favorite location is in this window, of course. Ms. C thinks I look angry in this picture, but I want to assure you that I am not. It's just that I am not quite accustomed to being in such bright sun anymore and I am trying not to squint. How wonderful it is!

Stygia: I am manning, er, catting, this strategic position on the cat condo. From here, I can circle about and keep track of activities inside the house, as well as monitor for intruders outside the house. It's a tough job, but I have years of experience!

Abby: For those of you who thought I looked angry in the window. I'll show you angry. Here is my angry face as I am lounging on Ms. C's lap. I am angry because Stygia approached and dared to stand up with her front paws against the arm rest and meow to Ms. C while I was getting my cuddle time:

She didn't stay for long so I guess she took the hint from my flat eyes and rumpled brow!

We all have a new home!

Abby: Greetings, friends! It's been too long since we last posted. Ms. C, Mr. R, Stygia and I all moved into a new place this past weekend. Stygia and I did not arrive to the new place until around 10pm Sunday night, and we weren't too sure we liked the new place. It was dark, and it smelled a lot different than what we were used to. Stygia cried and cried in confusion, but I only hissed.

Then, the morning came and we discovered....

....the window!

Yes, as you can see, when this place was built, they obviously had me in mind because there is a super window with lots of space for stretching out in the sun. And we get sun all morning and afternoon! WOW! This is great.

We hope all of you had a wonderful Halloween and have been staying warm if it's winter where you are. Hope to hear from you soon! Ms. C says there will be lots more picture to come once she and Mr. R finish setting up the furniture and stuff the way we like it best.

Feed Me

Ms. C: Is it Cat Time?

Abby: (very softly) Meow?

Ms. C: Cat Time?

Abby: (loudly, stretching) Meeeeeeooooow!

(thundering herd heads out to the kitchen where Ms. C prepares the bowl of tuna, meowing and circling ensue, followed by the great Prairie Cat pose)

Abby: num num num num num..... I love you!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Conversations with mom

Abby: We had sun this morning! As usual, Stygia and I began to groom and wrestle in it, but she . . . (whispers) got the best of me today and so I ran to the bedroom and hid for a bit. Ahem. After I returned to the sunny living room, I decided to talk to my mom from my partial position under the coffee table. I wasn't mad or anything, I just had a lot to say:

Stygia: For some reason, Ms. C thought it amusing to make a sort of "trading card" featuring me. I'm not sure whether it's a compliment or not? Plus my rump furs are still ruffled from the butt-scratching she'd just given me. Hmmmph.

Return!

Abby: We waited. And we waited . . . And we waited. And finally it happened, Ms. C is home! Oh, we were so excited. We realize that some of you other cats may not approve of our uninhibited approval and joy at Ms. C's return . . . but we were so happy that we ran to the door, never turning our backs on her, and we've been following her night and day ever since. Yes, she has been home for a couple of days now, and we demanded undivided attention, which is another reason we have not blogged. But now we're all back!

Here is a picture of us from last evening, we were keeping an eye on Ms. C while she was at her desk. This is also as close as we ever come to cuddling, sharing the same piece of furniture:

Of course, when Ms. C is at her desk, I often like to be there too. It's a great place to chill out and nap. Here I am, I'm feeling so lazy that I don't bother to open my sleepy eyes while I am talking to Ms. C:

Here is one of the places I searched for Ms. C while she was away. I just could not quite believe that she was not here to cuddle and feed me. I can get a good view of this place from my usual spot on Ms. C's desk, but she wasn't there:

Stygia: I couldn't quite believe it myself when Ms. C walked in the door the other afternoon. My tail went straight up and I got to her as fast as I could, so I could sniff her and give her a good leg-rub!

Speaking of things we hadn't seen in days, with Ms. C's return, the sun also returned! It was a totally blissful experience. In fact, in the sunlight, Ms. C was able to get a nice photo of my whiskers, which are notoriously hard to photograph because they are so dark:

Last but not least, a happy belated birthday to Ms. C from us, the cats! We even sent her a birthday card (which she was not expecting!). Please have a piece of the wonderful cake that Ms. C's own mom made for her. We don't eat chocolate, but if we did we would want some of this cake:

Feelin' Cozy

Abby: Ms. C says we ended up with over a foot of snow yesterday! And we were one of the lucky families in our area that did not lose power. Nevertheless, it was much colder than we cats were used to. Ms. C covered me with her bathrobe while I was relaxing on the floor, and I really liked how nice and warm it made me feel. Here I am giving Ms. C a small meow because she is talking to me, and I like to reply:

I am not biting my sister Stygia in this picture! She was wanting to play with that green mousie you see, but when I came over to give her a little help with washing her ears, she stretched out for me. I wish she would wash my ears, I can tell it feels good!

Stygia: She knew I was feeling playful, so of course as soon as the washing ended, we had to wrestle! I find that wrestling in the presence of my favorite mouse (the green one that still has a tail, of course!) makes it even more fun!!!

Ms. C: Here are some of our poor birch trees, weighed down by the heavy snow:

At last, the sun comes out! Yesterday, there was no sun, so of course Abby and Stygia have gravitated towards those warm spots on the cat condo and floor, to bathe and fall helplessly into naps!

What a week!
